The Fine Art of Framing

B-Framed galleries has long been known far and near, for its creative and top quality framing, no questions there! However, many people may have other questions regarding the ins and outs, the finer points of custom framing.

Little Bandits Original by Maija

   1. CUSTOM FRAMING: Did you know you can bring in your own ITEMS to B-Framed Galleries for framing - photos, certificates, needlework, posters, prints, collectibles such as antique fans, and jewelry, sports items like baseball cards or jerseys, wedding momentoes, the selection is only limited by your own imagination!

   2. PRICING: "How much does custom framing cost?" With framing, like anything, you get what you pay for. Keep in mind when choosing framing that most artwork is meant to last a lifetime. If you skimp on the quality and selection of framing will you be happy with it five years from now? Or will you choose to reframe it spending much more than if you had FRAMED it RIGHT the first time. How much you spend on framing should also be determined by how important the item is to you. Always let us know if you have a price range in mind and we will offer selections to fit your budget.

   3. CONSERVATION OR MUSEUM FRAMING: A readily reversible framing method that protects and preserves valuable art from the natural aging process. This is the most important part of your framing even though you don't see it. The materials used must be 100% cotton rag. This is what keeps the artwork from yellowing and deteriorating over time.

   4. THE SHADOWBOX - FRAMING MEMORABILIA: With a shadow box frame your antique baby quilt, your grandfather's watch, or your favorite sports hero's jersey can all be part of your personal gallery.

   5. MATTING: This is the protective border for flat works of Art. Matting is available in plain paper colors, textured look finishes like marble and real fabrics such as silk, linen and suede.

   6. SPECIALTY CUTS: UNIQUE DESIGNS can be cut into the matting to give your artwork a one of a kind presentation. This look is appropriate for Southwest, camouflage, and fantasy art. Feathers, stones, beadwork and other things can all be added to complete the look.

   7. FILLETS: A fillet is a small wood frame that is chopped and joined and adhered to the edge of the matting to complete the frame and give a finished look.

   8. GLASS OR GLAZING: Many types of glass are available, some with UV Screening, others with Reflection Control finishes. The choices are varied and so is the price range.

   9. GLASS ETCHING: Another decorative element, glass etching, is done on the surface of the glass using a subject that relates to the artwork.
   AND NUMBER TEN!!

   10. SELECTION OF STYLE AND COLORS: Picture frames are as limitless in Style and Coloration as the ARTWORKS they complement. First, the frame should be compatible with the art itself. The frame should always enhance the picture and should never overwhelm it.
Consider where the art will be displayed. Select a frame that is at home with the room. The more formal the room, the more formal looking the frame and the more symmetrical the placement and the arrangement. A casual room setting can accommodate more colorful framing styles and more unusual or exciting groupings.

The professionals at B-FRAMED GALLERIES will be glad to offer ideas and advice. Be prepared to discuss the room, its size, decorating style, color scheme and how the piece will be used (singly or in a group). Bring along samples of wall colors as well as fabric samples of furniture and window treatments.
